Was out today with my mate for a play around with his new Mackenzie FX1 15ft what a belter of a rod effortless, and loads of power,
Mr Mackenzie seems to have got it right again,
Even at a £1000 I can see them being very popular, nice piece of kit, :)

Tell us more Jimbo

What action does it have, heads and/or speylines go best, is it light in the hand ?

As far as I know they haven,t hit the shops yet ,
My mates was a pre ordered one, numbered he received it last week

Im possibly not the best to explain rod actions but here goes,it is very light in the hand ,bends all the way down to the butt, very powerful and the recovery of the tip is awesome,
We were using a Mackenzie speyline multitip today 10# and it was just effortless, found you had to slow your casting down and just let the rod do all the work, cracking rod beautiful

Wait until this time next year and you will be able to buy them on here for £500-£600 . Maybe even less . Same as the Sintrix, loop cross, sage method , guideline reaction and loomis Nrx .

My numbered 15ft FX1 is in the house and waiting on me returning to the UK in August, Don't mind the price as a lot of research and field testing has went into the rod by Scott and his team.

Bought the 13ft sintrix when it was launched and I can say it was worth every penny as I love using it on the river Teith. Life would be boring if we all agreed on rod design and pricing. Confident the FX1 will become my favourite rod for the Tay.

Just need to grow a set of nads and tell wife I do not want to go family holiday in August and that I would rather spend some time on the Tay with my new rod ..

Of all the mega bucks rods that have been around for the past few years, it's the only one I've heard absolutely nothing about on any bankside anywhere at all.I find this very surprising as Mackenzie rods to date have a very very good reputation(love mine!) and Scotts a reet good bloke, one of lifes good uns!.
A mystery!.Pedro.

One of my mates has the 15ft fx1 very nice powerful rod,but he doesn't use it that often as he prefers his 14ft g2,

I was speaking to a young lad just a few days ago in Dumfries, who works for scotlands biggest angling center, now he told me sales of salmon tackle have plummeted [his words] salmon rods and lines are sitting in the shop gathering dust,
Until the salmon situation improves I would guess the majority of people would have to seriously think hard about spending £1000 on a rod,no matter how good it maybe ?

He did say sales of trout gear was still strong !!

Bought a 14' from Mortimer's and used it all last week on the Spey, to say I am very pleased would be an understatement :D. It works magically well with a RIO 9/10 Spey F, you can cast a very presentable fly into the next County, double Spey casting is superb, oh but the cost , you have to talk your own deal.
It performs similar to the Vision MAG 14', which I carry as my No.2 rod now.
BTW, anyone in the market for a very tidy 16' SAGE ?

Deals

I am looking to get a 15' Fx1 before the end of the season, most dealers are offering the usual 10% off, anyone know of any good deals being offered anywhere as not a cheap rod.

Cheers

Apologies for thread jumping, I also have a 14ft 9wt FX1 for sale. Was selling a while back then had a trip offered so kept it and used it for a 3 days in Norway, so its in great condition. Not used it since due to using my 12ft 6" Zenith for my local smaller rivers.

£600 would buy it, pm if of interest.

I used both the Mackenzie Perflex and FX1 as demo rods when I fished the Thurso earlier this year. Certainly the FX1 is a superb piece of kit but I would struggle to justify the £700 price differential.
