The great John Lee Hooker.

I first heard him when I went to see the Blues Brothers on its release 79/80 with my cousin- i must have been 9. Anyway, it left its mark as im sure goes for anyone who has seen it.

The high point was JLH playing 'Boom Boom'

Memo From Turner- mick jagger, ry cooder was on it too. Not sure if its a stones tune, but works for me. Dirty blues

This is from the weird and wonderful film, Performance. I have seen it a few time and dont have a clue whats going on. But this little ditty makes it all worthwhile.

Midnight Rambler.

The stones dirtiest blues. Get Yer Ya Yas Out is my fav live album.

The lyrics are a forensic psychiatrist's dream come true, but its one hell of a track.

When I was 6/7 I first heard the Sex Pistols. My cousin Iain had a copy of Never Mind the ********, for which he was nearly burnt as a witch.

I was too young to get the Pistols but I enjoyed the discomfort that the mere mention of them brought.

The Happy Mondays

I saw them in Glasgow in 1990. They were ripped so was I and there was a guy selling whistles, which stands out in my mind for some reason. Bez was a whirling dervish.

Bummed is a great album, but Pills and Thrills was the high water mark.

Kinky Afro follows my liking for dirty shambolic tunes.

For Mr Zephead of North Britain.

I remember listening to Jimmy Page recall the making of this tune on radio one. It started with the drums, then the riff, then the words. A real happening, man.

This was my first encounter with the Ramones.

Another love song of great depth. I cant remember who did it originally, but this is hard to beat.

David Byrne seems like a complicated guy. Another classic, so who cares if he is odd?

The man who gave keef the riff- Chuck Berry a genius, perhaps sullied by that thing with the cameras in the lavvy. I forgive him. Here he is mixing it up with John and Yoko
