I see all spring salmon fishing is under brown tag until may on the whole system
A few tags will be raffled on 3 dates .l know the seatrout has declined but l thought that the springers were plentiful during the last few seasons.lts going to be a nail in the coffin for some of the local people

Currane spring fishing is an acquired taste. Not for the faint hearted. Unless you want to troll, it involves being held over known lies by an experienced boatman. Not cheap (generally only one rod fishing) and requires a lot of patience. Doing it sans boatman is generally a waste of time. Also, spring on this Lough can be very rough and cold. Currane is exposed and gets big waves.

If it’s spring fish you’re after, Carrowmore, or even Beltra are better bets. The nearby Caragh would be a good choice for river fishing. For seatrout, Currane was the daddy of them all. However, that’s now a memory thanks to a bunch of greedy shysters who allowed fish farming into the area. Excusable in 1989. But, with 30+ years of accumulated evidence, unforgivable.
