LOOP to LOOP

What is the most common methods that you guys use to attach your leader to your fly lines?

Either using a welded or braided loop at the end of the fly line and a perfection loop in the butt section of the leader.

Nice and neat and practical when it comes to changing leaders/polys etc.

I was looking at the braided loop connectors that uses heat shrink.
How reliable are these?
What are the chances of the join breaking when playing a large salmon?
Also, How does the loop to loop connection affect casting?

The Braided loops normally have a small piece of silicone tubing to be slid up to the top of the braid once the flyline is inserted.

A small amount of aquaseal can make for a nice smooth join and I have never had one fail.

Similarly when I make a welded loop I give them a very thin coat of aquaseal and again am yet to have one fail.

Bear in mind they won't last indefinitely and should be checked at the end of the season at least.

the loop to loop join if done correctly has no detrimental effect on casting and does not create any hinging.

Make sure its done ina hand shake fashion rather than just looped around.
