Hi
I am looking for remarks/reviews regarding the 10000 and/or the 8000

I am considering a 10000 for salmonfishing 13’6 rod 8/9. But maybe it is too large...

Anyone with thoughts about these reels...?

I have the old version, the Fortuna X, and they're fantastic peices of kit - for a 13' 6 I would go with the 8000. The 10000 would probably take 450-500 yards of backing to fill properly with an 8/9 line.

If your fishing in the uk only the 8000 would be fine, if salt water As well maybe the 10000, they have one hell of a drag, fortunately it has also a great range.

I have both. Fantastic piece of equipment! Didn't use the 10000 yet but I bought it for a Loop #9 13'6.

I bought the 10000 used on eBay and it was used (once) for saltwater with 400 yards of 80lb backing line and 12wt salt water line.

I can weight them for you if you like (with backing and line) or send pictures side by side. Let me know

XDS 10000 is a beast, I didn’t remember it was so huge ??‍♂️??‍♂️

The yellow backing on the 8000 is made of 250 yards of 30lbs gel spun backing.

Thank you so much! Nice reels..and I can see the 10000 is a good bit bigger than the 8000. The 8000 I have had in my hands...and I felt it was a reel for 12’6 rods (11’-13’). But wondered if the 10000 would be too big for 13’6 - 14’. But ofcourse it is a matter of personal preferences (I normally use reels on the larger size). Thanks for posting the pictures !

What I didn't realise until I reached the chapter on Hardy products in Brian Clarkes wonderful book "On Fishing"
was that the original Fortuna was a 9inch winch developed for fighting Tuna of the coast at Scarborough which ran up to 900lbs.:eek:
The reel was named, of course, because it was For Tuna.(y)
