Hello everyone,
Departure for Grantown in 2 days for my fishing month.
Looking at the levels and weather forecasts; I ask myself a lot of
Questions !
With my salmon equipment then I try the sea trout? my lightest rod
is a 13 "4 # 7 or switch # 6 and 8.
Specific flies or my little salmon flies may be suitable?
This is the first time I go backwards and a little disappointed.

Have a good day

Morning

I was up there last week for a couple of days. Had a salmon and two sea trout by fishing the first couple of hours and last couple of hours. I was only slightly lower down river and fish can still be caught...don't worry. Stoats tail size 10 / 12 and full floater in the faster water did it for me. Good luck!

We are up there starting 9th for our week so may see you on the river some day Christian.
I'm the tall dark handsome one, not one of the wee ugly sisters that may be hanging around me

This should help you recognize 2 of Kennys team Christian.
Kenny will be the one driving too fast and busy watching scantily clad bathers.
Brian will be the one swimming through your pool.

Some pictures to show the power of Kennys extreme weather powers.

I’d take the lighter switch for sea trout in low water personally

Dont be fixated on small flee's for the Sea Trout Christian,I'd always have some Silver Stoats Tail tubes of up to 2' on Aluminium and/or Plastic, tied slim and sparse so you can allways see the body through the dressing, jungle cock eyes and go easy on the flash!.
Once the light's gone don't be scared to give them a good mouthful of flee fished quite fast!.
Pedro.

Beware if you are heading to Mortimers, a few dodgy characters hanging about there yesterday afternoon;).
Cheers Diarmid.

Grantown late last week

Great spending the day with Jerry and getting set up by the good people at Mortimers. I learned to cast the long line on a Bruce and Walker 14’, which was a pleasing and proper way to fish that river. Used a Cascade and worked down through several pools over the course of the day.

Great day..low water, beautiful river..truly stunning and pristine compared to the Great Lakes tribs I generally fish. We raised two and a grilse, no bites though. Jerry mentioned this has been a historically bad year on the River Spey, including some of the private beats. Still, it exceeded my expectations given weather and lack of floods in the Cairngorms. I am doing a native rain dance for you all and for myself as the lawn is hopelessly burned out.

I hope to return and fish a few other rivers as well next time.

Cheers

Mark
