-2 here today on the stunning west coast of Scotland. The sun doesn't get high enough to hit the water at this location this time of year. Quite a bit of ice in the loch. Although sea lochs the fresh water off the hills sits on top of the saltwater being less dense, particularly in calm weather like this, which allows it to freeze more readily. I caught a few wee codling to start 2018. Was seriously considering going up to the Helmsdale but couldn't quite get motivated to fish for salmon yet. It's hard to beat fishing for salmon in the warmer months of the year for me. Will make it up there some year I'm sure.
Hope to see a photo of the first salmon soon. Always lifts the spirits. Good luck to those brave fishers in Scotland and Ireland trying to catch that very elusive first fish.
