Hi all. I live near two beautiful lakes which used to be full of sea trout. I’m really interested in an article about the lakes written,I believe, by Sidney Spencer. The Blanket Nook and Inch lake. Co. Donegal
The author refers to one of the lakes as “ a hidden gem.”
Does it ring a bell with any of you fishermen out there?
The lakes still hold trout but not like it was even ten years ago. I can remember the water ”boiling “ with small trout as they entered from the sea. Still occasionally decent fish are caught

It was a fantastic fishery in the sixties and seventies, with trout of six pounds and over, but the fisheries
neglected it,and poaching and pollution have ruined it.It could easily been one of the best
seatrout lakes in Ireland.

A friend of mine had one around four pounds last week. Still a few about but the runoff from the farm is ruining it. Not a lot of poaching now partly because it’s not worth doing due to low fish numbers. It takes a lot of hours to get a fish now. Nearly better left alone to see if it can recover.
