I fished with it a lot at the B&W open day, the best line was a 34g Gaelforce Equalizer. I know it's rated for 30g but that's too light, it is a lovely rod and it took all my energy to keep my trap shut and not order one on the day, it's beautifully finished as well, although you can have any finish you want

I really liked that wee rod also, the line we were using was the 9/10 39g Equalizer. It was the lightest we had on he day but it still went out well. The 34g 8/9 would have been even better.

Cheers Diarmid.

Thread from the dead . . . . .

Over the last couple of days I finally got the chance to try out the 12,4 I purchased from the Classifieds back in September. I'd originally thought about the 14ft 37g when I bought my 'Walker' a year or so ago, but I was a bit put off by the idea of a specialist SH rod - which I thought would be soft tipped. The price in the Classifieds was too good to turn down so I took the plunge.

I'm not sure what the 14fter is like but the 12,4 certainly doesn't seem 'tippy'. It seems to flex fairly uniformly a good way down the blank to just above the handle.

Over about 4 hours I tried 4 Rage Compact SHs from 420 to 540 Grain and it took them all with a bit of adjustment to the casting. I think I prefer the 510 for my casting 'style', but it had no problem whatsoever with the 540 H/I and the 420 was perfectly acceptable.

I'm an average caster at best but that's some window, even for B&W. From my calcs it's about 28g to 35g with maybe even more to come. Fit and finish are top notch as always.

My only slight gripe would be about the handle, which is 4-6" too long for me. Maybe it will go back for a change at some point but I'll be keeping the rod I like it,, a lot.
