What line for a 13ft 6 hardy zenith...

Thank you Arnold, both for the great advice and the very kind offer. I'm not in any rush at all but I could never accept it foc, I'd happily buy it and then that would contribute to you replacing it with a gaelforce spey line. Thank you again, Jamie

What line for a 13ft 6 hardy zenith...

I do feel as though my 7/8 spey line just doesn't give me enough oomph from the rod. So I am expecting to need an 8/9 but I would be surprised and a little worried about using a 9/10. jamie

What line for a 13ft 6 hardy zenith...

I have a 13ft 6 hardy zenith. I currently use a weight 7/8 hardy mach line (50 odd ft head I think) and I normally get on well with it. However, I've noticed when the water is up a little and I want to use a fast sink tip and a copper tube it does seem to struggle a little. Perhaps it's just my...

    France want more cash !!

Withour belittling it, I'm sure there is an element of the media whipping it all up to sell stories and clicks and likes and all the rest of it! I wouldn't expect anything less. Jamie

    France want more cash !!

Thanks carrowmore. I stand corrected. The figures do make sense, coming to this country because they speak some English seems unlikely given the circumstances they find themselves in and so I suppose it seems logical that these other countries have large application volumes. How do...

    France want more cash !!

I agree with this, the situation these people are in is obviously horrendous but unfortunately there is a tipping point. Yes, we have a grim past and we have meddled in foreign affairs all over the world but there is only so much the UK can do. On the idea that a lot of them are surgeons and...

Reliable no nonsense trout reel, recommendations please

Very unfortunate ibm! Hopefully the same fate will not befall this one. My parents used to have a cabin at loch eck many years ago. I don't remember much about the place but I do remember a wee old stone pub we visited. You went down a steep flight of stairs and inside it was full of smoke and...

Reliable no nonsense trout reel, recommendations please

Hello again all, just thought I would give a quick update. I saw this marquis for sale through facebook marketplace and for the price (55 quid) I thought it was certainly worth having this as one of my trout reels anyway. When I went to collect it I didn't understand the advert properly and so...

Exceptional runs of fish in Ireland

Thanks for taking the time to give me that robust response Charlie. I stand corrected. I'll continue to read with interest! Jamie

Exceptional runs of fish in Ireland

I would have thought angling effort today would be roughly similar to that of times gone past? Certainly angling effort until around 5-10 years ago when numbers seemingly (I use that word cautiously haha, I do believe they have declined but I am interested in this concersation) must have been...

    Fly fishing depth

Yes, I guess that supports the thinking of going through a pool and if going through a second time or third or whatever then try a different approach. Rain has fallen good for this saturday so hopefully I'll have another crack at it this weekend! Jamie

    Fly fishing depth

Thank you MCX, I need to have a word with myself by the sounds of things and get a little more confident fishing much higher in the water than I have been. Perhaps that will help my catches as much, if not more than being willing to change to something heavier and "get the fly down to them"...

    Fly fishing depth

Thank you again pedro. Great advice. I think I need to be more flexible and willing to ring the changes. Perhaps start with a full floater if the water is the right height for it then move gradually through the polys in the hope of finding the right depth. The rain is making things look good...

    Sea-trout in the salt

They look excellent. Very different from what I have ever tried in the past. Definitely gives me a new approach and some renewed optimism! Thank you. Jamie

    Fly fishing depth

Thank you MCX, great advice. So would you find yourself using a full floater if conditions were suitable? I have always been shy of using a full floating line on the river for salmon but perhaps that isn't sensible based on your ideas....? thank you, Jamie
