    First casualty of this winter

I have to agree when it comes to a stocked fishery. The otters can then end up just staying there and causing havoc and not moving on as they would normally do. I suppose they can sense when there are unnatural numbers of fish and don’t then behave as they would normally. It would be sensible...

    First casualty of this winter

Otters and salmon have always co existed. Also an otter does not behave like a fox in a chicken coup. They will only take what they need, plus they tend to be always on the move so they don’t over predate one particular area. Obviously though, if a burn only had a couple of fish that made it to...

    First casualty of this winter

Looks like something has had a hold of it, going by the damage to its throat and unfortunately, it does not look like it had spawned.

Swan feathers usable for tying streamers?

As you say, it is most likely that swan died as a result of hitting overhead wires, or a vehicle, especially in that location, however there are currently a lot of cases of wildfowl deaths as a result of avian flu.

    River Tweed 2021

Very true and that’s why we did not have any fish to speak of before October this year. In a wet summer we would expect to pick up the odd fish from July onwards.

    Tradesman’s Corner

I think perhaps you mean screed the floor Saffy. Latex based screed is often used to level out any unevenness before laying a timber or vinyl floor on top. Skim the walls but screed the floor.

How far up the River Tweed can salmon reach?

There are no obstacles preventing salmon moving up into the upper reaches of the Tweed. Given suitable water flows, they spawn right up to the very top of the river. As Lamson says, right up to where it is so narrow you could step over it in places. So effectively, you could say that salmon can...

The Golf course actually is on both sides of the river above the road bridge. Below the bridge it is just on the Cardrona (right bank) side, with rough grass fields and the road on the Horsbrugh side.

No, I was fishing our side, left bank. That’s the main road between Peebles and Innerleithen running along the top of the wall behind my friend in the second pic.

    Upper Tweed today

When it was all Association water it was a lot easier to fish the Nutwood off the Cardrona side but some did fish it off the road side (Horsbrugh). The Association ceased when Glenormiston estate was sold and the lease was terminated. They owned the fishing on the Cardrona side but put it up for...

Yes, it went up quite quickly yesterday. There must have been a fair bit rain up in the hills early morning. Typically the river levels on Fishpal went off air yesterday and were still down this morning. It would recon it was around 2’ this morning but clearing up nicely with very few leaves...

Aye, it still fishes well, especially when there are fish running, you see a lot showing at the tail as the come into the pool. The little lay by at the top is now gone but there is still a big lay-by at the end of the straight opposite Nether Horsburgh cottages plus there are an other couple of...

That is the Dirtpot corner now Marty. It was completed a couple of years ago. I was concerned that the works involved might have an adverse effect on our fishing but it has actually made it easier and we have had a lot of fish from the Dirtpot since it was competed. We did lose access for one...

I was using a 1” tungsten posh tosh to get the fly fishing right away in the faster water. I get a lot of fish with a posh tosh, especially when there is a little bit of colour and a high water.

Saw quite a few fish running in the morning but not so many in the afternoon. One rod lost a fish which he said was very clean. He said it looked like a springer it was that fresh. I did also catch a kelt in the morning, the first I have seen but I have not seen any redds yet. I heard of a very...
