You can definately teach yourself how to spey cast, especially now with all the internet help, youtube etc. I bet most anglers on this forum are self taught. I have fished with many people over the years and I don't know anyone that has had a casting lesson, and there are some beautiful casters...

    Climate change

The biggest air polluting country per person is Australia. 70% of their power is from coal burning power stations. Every state has coal mines so they are just using their resources like any oil rich countries use theirs. If we stopped this new Cambo oilfield, all went electric (which is...

    Dee 2021 trip

Ive fished Birse but never Aboyne Water. The Lummels is unique. There is some grim reading for some beats tho. Next beat up, 30 for their season and advertising for full time ghillie !!!. Keirstream has had more than that himself this year.

    Dee 2021 trip

In this current season I have to say that was a very successful week. Some nice heavy fish . When you are getting the odd fish it keeps you fishing, so well done for persevering and thank you for reporting a happier Dee story for a change

A rare successful week on the Dee. Well done man. What beats were you on ? I recognise Kincardine photos.

When should you fish a sink tip for salmon

What was your initial thinking when you made the change to an Int main line. Its obviously worked for you.

Lack of fish showing this season?

Hit the nail right on the head. Its usually greed that knackers everything for everyone. I have had big days and blank days. But at least on the blank days you were seeing fish, and weren't coming away downhearted. The prices have kept going up as the numbers have gone down. I suppose we are the...

Lack of fish showing this season?

That was the first time I have fished the Dee in October , and will be the last. When the extension was granted for the beats below Aboyne a ghillie told me , not one salmon will benefit from it. Which I thought was a very true and diplomatic disagreement. The big back end runs have indeed...

Lack of fish showing this season?

I wasn't implying it is just the Dee. Infact its the same story from everyone I know who fish a selection of rivers. "They" have thrown (wasted) a lot of money at various river projects without many success stories. Hatchery debates will go on forever with no conclusion. One thing I can say...

Lack of fish showing this season?

I have fished a few rivers this year and have been beaten by conditions a few times. No water, blue skies etc. Yesterday I fished the River Dee on a perfect height of water, dull day, no wind, early October, and apart from a half hearted offer first time down the pool, 2 rods had nothing for the...

    First off the Southie

Good fish for the Soothie. Good luck at Avochie. I had a week on there which coincided with one of the warmest heatwaves we had had for years. The week started great with Andy Murray winning his first wimbledon . The river was like bathwater even in the middle of the night, but there were fish...

    A Few Fish From Today

Getting a bit confused with theories. Are you using Int lines with sunray and floater with hitch. ? I'm not a fan of fishing sunray solely due to the effort, I have enough sore bits without adding anymore. But there is no doubt you guys have certainly proved its worth persevering. I have...

    Extreme selfishness

Better growing your own if you can. We all think we are being healthy eating our supermarket veggies 12 months of the year. We have 3 large farms near us that employed a couple of thousand eastern european workers, none of the ones I knew would eat any of the stuff they grew as they saw the...

    Extreme selfishness

Absolutely spot on. Same amount of drivers just now as there has been for months with no panic, until a rumour is spread by the media. Maybe we could use it to our advantage. Eating Goosander eggs will give you eternal life !!? Sure the clever guys could think of better
