Advice / comment needed - salmon fly reels.

The 1 is switch/small double hander size, the 2 is spot on for a 13ft8/9 and should take a 9/10 no problem. The 3 is a big reel which would suit your 15 footers upwards. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Big Sea Trout

Its one of those things that you never expect. Deciding wether to try and keep up with it using the reel or pull line by hand usualy ends up in disaster aswel. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Big Sea Trout

Agree with that, salmon either seem to take long runs, circle the pool or stay deep for a tug of war. With seatrout all bets are off, from cartwheeling down the pool to charging straight at you. Ive had them jump the net and run down the shallows behind me or spot a snag and run for it which ive...

    Starving sea birds

I was fishing the wear, near enough in the city center on sunday and there were tons of what i think were razorbills swimming and diving. Ive not seen them as far inland before. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Shakey Oracle Switch

Great rods for the money. The ones ive tried have cast really well. Tried them with skagit heads and barrio switch lines and both flew out. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

Advice / comment needed - salmon fly reels.

The noise is the best part for me, ive got modern "high tech" reels but my main go to salmon reel is an old hardy ultralite disc as it sings when a fish tears off. The drag and line recovery arent as good as my modern reels but they are more than up to the job. Only issue i have is when a big...

The seal may have been picking off the ones moving slower due to lack of oxygen. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Big Sea Trout

If i had the choice of picking 1 trip for fishing im the world it would be to south america for the giant seatrout rather than russia/scandinavia etc for big salmon. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Starving sea birds

A few could be down to my terrible aim when casting the beach rods lately [emoji85] either that or i rekon the windmills at blyth/cambois must wipe a few out as they fly through them. Theres been plenty baitfish around lately that ive noticed. I wonder if bait digging on the rag and lugg worm...

    Coffee machine

The best beans ive tried by a country mile is a special blend from a small deli in rothbury. They are from pumphreys coffee that do sell online. Not sure if they sell that blend on the site but they do sell some other really good ones. Also if you need to be really really awake/dont want to...

    Big Sea Trout

Not my biggest but a tide fresh seatrout is a bonny fish, had this one around the 6lb mark (pic in the net dosebt do it justice) 3rd cast after lockdown ended last year. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Coffee machine

Yea, once you find the ammount and brew time that works for you then you get perfecr coffee every time. I still use my pod machine at times but much prefer the aeropress. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

    Big Sea Trout

Biggest ive had was 7 and a half and it gave me the runaround on the fly rod. Lost what i rekon was a seatrout well into double figures at dusk earlier this year when the hook snapped. Im saying seatrout due to the way it behaved during the fight running into the near bank along the shallows...

    Coffee machine

Are you set on a machine ? Best coffee ive had by a country mile is from an aeropress. Simple little gadget but makes brilliant coffee. Also about 20 quid. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

Ive seen some huge ones caught on the coquet and seen plenty of mid doubles from the high banks. Most of its kept quiet and off the internet otherwise you get there in the dark and the pools allready been hammerd or someones fishing it [emoji1787] Also a guy lost one in the dark last night on...

The Close Season What You Doing Today Thread?

Out fishing on the beach last night and quite enjoyed it even though there was only 2 small fish and about half a ton of kelp caught. Should have the fly rod glued to my hand and be on the river at every oppertunity at this time of year but its pointless as its so low. Sent from my SM-G981B...

How Small is a Small Flee, Really?

Agreed, they seem to cut into the cartilage and stay put rather than sliding over and finding a hold in the softer parts of the mouth. Also i rekon you are as likely to have a deep hooked fish on a size 6 as you are a 16 as it just depends how and when the fish takes it. Sent from my SM-G981B...
