Pat Curry - Curry's Red Shrimp

Nev Never even thought of that Gary! 😉

I really do hope they get sorted out. I saw Ryan Farquhar give an interview last year saying that perhaps the pandemic might help to save the Ulster Grand Prix that had already been cancelled due to financial difficulties. It would be great to have a full international road racing calendar for...

One for the Road Racing Fans!

I saw an article where Mervyn Whyte, the Clerk of the course for the NW200, said that the 2022 event would need to be able to run at full capacity to be financially viable. I didn't actually read the article so not sure about the content. The NW200 already gets quite substantial funding from...

Pat Curry - Curry's Red Shrimp

First photo might have a Wilkinson featherwing on the right. A predecessor of the popular shrimp fly today. Not sure of the other one. The next picture has a Curry's Red and possibly a 'Faughan Purple' or possibly a 'Roe Purple'. What an absolutely stunning shade of red hackle on that! 😮...

Holding a fish for a picture.

That's nature. That's part of the journey. The bashing off rocks and losing oxygen out of their system all while their energy stores are depleting with every minute since they've left the sea. There really is no comparison to the above and some tit over complicating what should be a very simple...

Angling has never been more popular

I know a friend of mine almost missed out on a Permit for the Dennet as he only heard last minute that there wouldn't be as many issued as last year. It is cheap too, at £35 a season, so I'm not surprised they sold a lot of them last season. Apparently the loughs, Moorlough, Lough Ash and...

Pat Curry - Curry's Red Shrimp

I'll look forward to seeing them! 🙂 I think the first row, to the left contains a Curry's Red and three Curry's Blue Shrimps. Also a currys red in the bottom right if the photo. Might be a ghost shrimp in there too. I'll look forward to the photos. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Pat Curry - Curry's Red Shrimp

You have some proper angling history in your possession and are an extremely lucky person. I am extremely jealous! 🙂 It is great to see stuff like this still exists. I see a couple of red shrimps in the box and possibly a couple of blue shrimps too? Is it possible that you could post more...

Angling has never been more popular

That certainly was the case here. Some Fisheries that only opened a certain number of days a week put on extra days. One small spate river here had to cap there membership this season. They ran an open book system before put the banks were jammed last season.

Holding a fish for a picture.

Of course people are allowed to take a photo of their fish but, like everything else, there's a right and a wrong way to do it. I have seen people hook fish, play them for far too long, beach them onto gravel and rocks, grab them by the tail and carry them even further from the river where...

    Using up splits

I've tied plenty like that over the years. A great way to use up split nails and the larger nails that might normally be considered too big. Lovely fly too by the way! 😉

Angling has never been more popular

Just saw this article on my phones news feed. It seems that angling has never been more popular. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/may/15/net-profit-tackle-shop-sales-soar-as-uk-catches-fishing-bug-in-lockdown-covid

    Sawada tube trebles ST4

Pat Nolan does Sawada hooks but not sure if he does those specific hooks you're after but might be worth a shout.

There is still a great buzz and atmosphere in the national races. The NW200 has become a bit too commercialised and has lost something because of that for me. It was my one chance a year to see the likes of John McGuinness, Peter Hickman and Dean Harrison in action.

One for the Road Racing Fans!

13 years ago yesterday that Robert lost his life. I remember the evening well as I watched from Ballysally Roundabout and remember the few leading bikes coming round in Practice and within seconds, the Red flags going out. The feeling you get at a road race when the red flags go out is truly...

One for the Road Racing Fans!

It was always a tradition here that the Cookstown races were the last Saturday in April. One that I never got to, but the highlights of it were always shown on the Monday evening of the NW200 week. Then Tuesday and Thursday practice and Saturday race day. The local town halls used to turn into...

Holding a fish for a picture.

I've never felt the need to have a photo taken with my Catches. In saying that, I take a photo of every fish I manage to land. I have to submit a catch return every season and when I'm sitting in late November trying to remember what I'd caught and when I caught it, it is just so much handier...

Tie of the Month May 2021: 'Is that sea I see?'

Easky isn't exactly running away with last months votes despite entering 4 minutes before competition closed. 😉 That's nothing against your entry Easky, just the theory that last in is a guaranteed winner. It's really not that easy. 🙂

A new rod to play with...

No fear of the rivers here being in flood anyway. Just nuisance rain here. The North West of Northern Ireland is a big area for cricket. The matches used to get great crowds and my dad's uncle followed one of the local teams everywhere. One of his great sayings was that you know its a bad year...

A new rod to play with...

Looks great. Wish you all the very best of luck with it Iain. May your arms ache from playing so many fish on it! 😉😁
