Huge Tay fish tagged onto crazy Iain Bain video

Assuming one is available, that is one of the reasons I will always pay for a Ghillie for at least one day on a fishing holiday. Every single time it has definitely yielded a fish from a spot I may otherwise have ruined. A good example of that was a trip to Ireland a couple of years back when...

    Poll: multiple votes?

Poll closed and the result is that we shall retain the single vote/voter which I encourage to be used for a fly not tied by yourself. Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions and voting.

    Guideline Vosso HD 911

Mine should arrive in a day or two and so I’ll try and put a video up for you - unless it has no click!

    Guideline Vosso HD 911

Another option is the Lamson Guru S. I have the Litespeed for my trout rod and that has a lovely click. I’m hoping the Guru is the same.

Tie of the Month May 2021: 'Is that sea I see?'

I always wonder if the majority of voters read through the whole thread or just compare the photo’s once the poll is up .

Pat Curry - Curry's Red Shrimp

Thats great to see but the vielings have me flummoxed! Is it red dyed duck wing where the fibres have come apart or something else?

    Using up splits

I do the same with nail varnish on them but the big ones like this I wouldn’t even use on big flies and so this is a great use for my own box.

    Using up splits

There was a relatively recent discussion about the price of jungle cock, especially those that don’t have splits and therefore the fact that people could feel priced out. Seeing a FB photo of a tube got me thinking about that again and so having finished an order of trout flies I had a play...

A new rod to play with...

Yes it certainly pushes through as it goes past what’s left of the boathouse. Even more so the height it is now!

A new rod to play with...

I may have just accidentally ordered a Lamson Guru S HD Arctic to go with it. I’m not quite sure how it happened but I definitely have a confirming e-mail…😉

A new rod to play with...

I wish that was my garden but no it’s the village recreation ground. You are correct on the action though which makes it very forgiving but as it recovers well single, double spey and snap-T are all very easy to perform. I can’t comment on the fully aerialised snake roll as I’m not good enough...

A new rod to play with...

Thank you. I thought you might have as I know you’ve seen a fair few of Gordon’s creations. What amazes me is that as someone in the office said, the whippings are somehow metallic and shiny while also being matt which means it has a nice subdued look on the water. Absolutely stunning work 😻

That’s how I took hence the nature of my response 🤣. DrP is often a first poster though…

Tie of the Month May 2021: 'Is that sea I see?'

If only that was true then life would be much easier if a bit of a last minute battle....as bad as getting the last bid in on certain auction sites!

    Vision Salmon Hero 13' 7" #8 - Review

That's a very good review as all yours are and I'm sure if I'd got my hands on one I'd have been very happy. (y)

A new rod to play with...

Thanks Richard. It will be going to the Dee with me at the end of June when I fish the challenge and so if the Welsh salmon haven't played ball by then (..and the river is still in flood for a second weekend on the trot  ) hopefully the Scottish ones will take pity on me!

A new rod to play with...

Just finished editing above. I went with the #8/9 , 13' . One of Gordon's own design which in the sunlight has a beautiful dark, smoky grey look to the visible wraps of carbon which sit perfectly with the gunmetal reel seat and thread colours. I would say that though as they were my choice!

A new rod to play with...

With a Barrio ISS #8/9 line, 10' of slow sink polyleader, about 8' of nylon leader and pretty awful casting action! If I can get it to perform like this then anyone can!

A new rod to play with...

Some of you may remember me hunting down a 13'6 #8/9 that I could easily fit in the car/suitcase unlike my existing rod, because many of you came up with some excellent suggestions. As it turned out though I really struggled to find what I was after and so I widened the search to include 13'...
