    Default Hook suggestions (10mm byelaw)

    I'm just looking for suggestions to what people are using that are suitable for the 10mm gauge for night fishing byelaw. I'm currently using size 14 trebles but I'm thinking about changing to a single.

    Carp hooks are about as sharp as you will get and have smaller sizes to suit.

    For this very reason I got some excellent doubles from Anglers Lodge, 12's I think, can't remember the make but I'm sure they'll be helpful if you popped in there.
    I use almost exclusively Drennan singles for coarse fishing, their specimen range mostly, not the strongest but also not the heaviest, quite strong enough for most situations.
    In extreme hook and hold situations I use their super specialist range, VERY strong hooks. To quote an old friend. '' You can hang a bucket on a 16 super specialist''.

    Yeah I'm wanting something that isn't going to straighten if I'm using a single. I'll have a look at them and see which size fits.

    I've also found these;

    Partridge Patriot Stinger Tube Single | Tube Fly Hooks

    Partridge NTS Nordic Tube Single Salmon & Steelhead Hooks – Glasgow Angling Centre

    both look good but would need to see if the size would be suitable.

    If you are looking at coarse hooks, check out Drennan wide gape specialist and super specialist barbel patterns.

    IMO both are better hooks than the standard super specialist and the barbel version is available in ‘odd’ sizes as well.

    Hope this helps.

    The super specialist were my go to hook when i used to do quite a bit of worming late season, you wont get much stronger for the wire gauge of the hook.

    I use size 14 Fulling Mill micro trebles, a box of 25 will cost about a tenner. Veniard Osprey trebles size 14's and 16's have a slightly bigger gape but should still go through a ten mm tube. For singles, 6's 8's and 10's in Fulling Mill and Kamasan hooks are also decent. The only problem I have with micro trebles is removing them from the fish they seem to bury deep into the jaw.

    Yeah i've had the same with the small trebles, they certain get a good hook hold once in.

    Cheers for info lads, i'll get a few order and see which ones fit best.
