    Default Doon Salmon

I think I might have managed it at last.(well sort of).
12.25 Fish caught by me on 17/07/2008 River Doon .Beat Doonfoot,Pool Mount Charles Narrows.
Caught on a black F/C gold blade.
This pool is only 3/4 of a mile from the sea so notice the long tail sealice.

Think it runs down from Dalmelington and hits the sea just south of Ayr. There's a bit there called Doonfoot which is a bit of a clue, never fished it or heard of it till today but remembered passing Doonfoot as a lad. Please put me right if I'm way off guys...

HI scottyboy, the Doon is one of the best rivers in Ayrshire. It flows westwards from loch Doon and it enters the sea just south of Ayr. The flow of the river is controlled by a hydro- electrical station so if the rest of the Ayrshire rivers are showing there bones in mid summer the Doon was still fishable . In the late 70's it had good runs of salmon and seatrout and it had some fine browns my best was a 3lbs brown trout caught on a dry fly. The cost of fishing the Doon in the 70's was 1 for a full day and 50p for an evening, this is making me sound old
There was one or two clubs on the river but most of the fishing was in private hands . for more info contact Game Sport fishing tackle shop in Ayr or try this

Tummelties - horse shoe, got a couple of witnesses.
Mr J Lafferty lost a fish of about 12-13lbs and landed one of 6lbs.
