Yeah you will notice them fraying,the simms fit is that good I don't have to tighten the cable up to much and I thnk that is the answer as you will get a lot longer out of the cable if you don't over tighten them and like Pedro says it's always good to give them a bit TLC ,I also dub my boots...

I have the boa rivertek with the cables and the rivertek with the laces as spares, braw comfy boots and I have had a few cables snap but it's a 5 minute job to replace them and if you contact Boa they will send you new cables FOC.
