"Combat" Flyfishing Setup for King Salmon

Stay in the same spot pretty much. You wade out there at 0 Dark Thirty to get a prime spot , then hold it all day and/or till you're done w it. Its very competitive. There is, however, an established decorum in terms of deference to others when they hook up/ are fighting fish which is...

Are your rivers anything similar to that? If not, then you are very lucky :)

Yes Sir, you're absolutely right, it is very tough; during the run, all the rivers are like that though so not much you can do unfortunately :(

"Combat" Flyfishing Setup for King Salmon

Ill have 2 pieces of shot attached to an un trimmed tag-end from my leader ; the weight of the shot will be enough to launch the fly 20-30 feet easy, even further if need be ii let out more line and open loop it enough

"Combat" Flyfishing Setup for King Salmon

Hey Guys, Last week, went up to the Oswego River to try some King Salmon fishing and, as always, it was very crowded. Due to this, part of your fishing strategy MUST be to make short casts and drifts; otherwise, you're constantly tangling lines and lures with other guys and/or striking them...

    Very early in the morning

Yes, At least for Kings , no doubt it’s better early in the morning; just after sunrise , fish are much more active . Activity usually is pretty constant till about 10-10:30 then dies down. I’ve never fished in the evening for them but I’ve heard that it picks up again later , like around 5:30-6...

Palomar knot strength vs Improved clinch knot

was rigging my gear up for salmon fishing and thought I’d try using a Palomar knot-As opposed to Using my normal improved clinch knot- to increase the strength of the tie to the barrel swivel; However , the opposite seemed to occur. When I applied pressure , I was able to break the Palomar Knot...

    Chuck-n-duck Rod for Crowded Rivers

Is crowding ever an issue over there during the season? Over here in NY During the run , it is , you’re usually standing shoulder to shoulder , every day , all day. Granted , if you’re willing to hike in deep, you can get away from the crowds , then swinging flies/ sort casting becomes feasible...

    Rising Salmon

Adding to Walleye’s post, in summer you will often find fish moving up a pool to pick up additional oxygen in the fresher water at the head. Intercepting that movement can be a productive tactic in low water conditions (see Calm Reflections for an example). This is most likely to occur in pools...
