    Some hook advice;

I don't really have a favourite brand and I've yet to use a hook that guarantees that I'll land everything I hook. There aren't too many doubles around these days. Ahrex and loop are both too expensive for me. Kamasan do a low water double, B280 I think the code is. Fulling mill magni and...

I haven't actually seen it yet so don't know if it has cleaned or not but I'll give it a throw at some stage today! All the best for your trip! 👍

That freshening of the water could make all the difference! 😉

    Hatcheries ?

With the current run off into the Wye, spending £20 million a year will not make fish return to that river. 🙁

    Hatcheries ?

When I think back to the mid 1990s here on the Foyle system, the warning signs were there that there were issues at sea. We were getting numbers returning that those who only started fishing in the past 10 years or so, couldn't even imagine. Good anglers landing over 100 salmon a season and...

    Hatcheries ?

2 days fishing, plus hotel, cost more than I've paid for fishing an entire season for the past 10 years. 😮

    Hatcheries ?

I think I remember seeing that. You can't just go and fish it but must stay in the hotel to get fishing. A 7 night stay was the price of decent second hand motor if I remember correctly.

    Hatcheries ?

I found the report... https://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download%3Fdoi%3D10.1.1.945.3546%26rep%3Drep1%26type%3Dpdf&ved=2ahUKEwjSlsK63obyAhWKY8AKHUdTDooQFjAFegQICxAC&usg=AOvVaw21a5I7otVSbSYfV96FkDNe The report was published in 1996 and the hatchery cost £75,000, it was punts in those days...

    Hatcheries ?

There did seem to be returning numbers to those places but again, the costs involved were colossal. The hatchery alone cost a lot of money to put together, I can't remember the figure but it was a hell of a lot of money for the time it was built. In todays money, it would be extreme to say the...

    Hatcheries ?

Don't they have to restock in Iceland as there is no spawning beds with volcanic Ash and the Tyne is restocked, not because of poor numbers but because of loss of access to spawning beds with the building of the Kielder reservoir? I've read a lot about hatcheries over the years and still have...

    Heatwave casualties

At long, long last we had a spell of rain move through yesterday that has wetted the ground and slow moving, heavy showers today and I am glad to say my river is on the rise!!! 😃 My season is just about to get underway!!!

    Irn Bru Flamethrower

Well, for the first time in well over a week, my shed doesn't feel like a Swedish sauna and it's finally possible for me to sit in there and still be able to breathe. I wanted to try the flamethrower version I tied above as an Irish shrimp and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
