Although we do call them smickers, some people actually have the nick name smickers, had a mate his nickname was smickers got from Smith his surname.

It wasn't him that's for sure not a chance that lad fishing.

Suppose i should say that yes Salmon do run the lagan.

About 1000 or so a year.

they had an intensive restocking programme and it has seemed to work.

Ive seen them too leaping around the Albert Bridge.

I can tell you its full of Mullet and Big ones too.

As for where to fish it i'm not too sure about permits etc but if i had to go anywhere for salmon id head to Colin Glen around September after rain.. Thats just a guess mind.

That's a bit like "do you know someone from Edinburgh called Jock", or "do you know a guy called Taffy from Swansea"?....

The Lagan does get salmon and some sea trout, but they are well spread out.

Faughanpurple, those are mullet at the Albertbridge probably.

There has been a 30m grant to clean up the rivers in the East of the city, including the Connswater, so watch this space.........

It currently has a good run of shopping trolleys and Lidl bags all year.

Yes you can see the Mullet at the side every day during the summer but old salmo is un mistakeable when it takes to the air in mid river

    KingFish,

I fish the Lagan above Moira. There's plenty of nic brown trout round there, averaging 1/2-3/4lb, with fish up to 2-3lb caught every season.

It's a nice trout stream up there. Further downstream near shaws bridge would be salmon water, they don't really go by Lisburn until October, when you always hear a report of black fish caught near the hospital.

As for smickers, Lisburn is full of em!! Needle in a pile of needles!!
