I thought it was 19lb 12oz? Or was it re-weighed? Not that it matters, still an amazing fish!

After it was caught I had it weighed on the scales inside the Abbey kitchens at 20lb1oz but by the time the day had past and I took it to the local shop to be weighed, it weighed in at 19lb12oz...blood and fluid loss over the day had taken it's toll!
Just had a couple of slices of it for lunch...smoked.

    Default First salmon for Alice.

First salmon for Alice Fitzjohn... daughter of the legendary Geoffrey Fitzjohn with her first ever salmon from the Castle Lake taken on a dry Daddy.

And you could drag her, kicking and screaming, from the river bank by her long flowing locks to your kitchen so she could cook it for you, as her loving husband!

Great to see that we are open again next season with an increased quota... not that we ever get close to filling it.
Sadly the Clifden river bites the dust, getting relegated to C+R.

Overall, the total allowable catch for this area has been reduced by 27% on last years quotas.

Geoffrey Fitzjohn has kicked off our 2019 season with our first fish of the year. At 4lb 9oz certainly not the largest first fish but neither is it the smallest in recent years when I landed a 3.5lb fish on 01.06.2016.
The fish fell to a Black Shrimp in Upper Eugenes pool.
This is the third year in succession that the first salmon has been landed on the 15 March and in this case, a hat trick for Geoffrey.

Seamus O'Neil also had a near landing, loosing a good fish in the Lunch Pool on the Lower River this morning and last week, I turned a good fish in Tullywee Bridge Pool so... there are a few fish around.

    Default Two more for Geoffrey.

Two more fish were landed today by Geoffrey Fitzjohn. One of 9lb from Tullywee Bridge Pool on the Upper River and a fish of 10lb 8oz from Lavelles Pool on the Lower River. Both were returned in compliance with our >8lb rule which obliges anglers to return any fish over the 8lb mark unless it happens to be a hatchery fish or the angler's first ever salmon.
Good water at the moment and reasonably mild conditions along with big tides are obviously help our success's.
