    Default Good story books

    Hi Folks,

The season will soon be over for me, although I am getting three days in this week (Kinnaber & Tweedswood) to hopefully finish off in style.

Would anyone have any recommendations on good fishing books to read over the close season ? I am not interested in books on "how to do it" just books with great stories, either salmon or trout.

    Thanks in advance, LanlishBrown

Anything by Bill Currie but especially "The River Within" and "Days and Nights of Game Fishing". Anything by John Ashley Cooper but especially "A Salmon Fisher's Odyssey". Tom McGuane's "The Longest Silence".
If you like loch fishing for salmon(or just enjoy good writing) then Sidney Spencer's "Newly from the Sea" and " Salmon and Seatrout in Wild Places".

On the Beat With Black Shrimp, John Cathcart.

great stories from a lifetime's fishing. Like his fly, this one will become a classic.

Plenty of excellent choices above. I'd add:

Fishing a Highland Stream - A Love Affair With A River - John Inglis Hall

    or

Fly Fishing - Sir Edward Grey

    or

A Jerk On One End - Reflections of a Mediocre Fisherman - Robert Hughes

None of the above sets out to teach you anything, but you'll learn loads from them....especially about yourself.

    Regards

For those of a minimalist disposition what about that new title "Fish Spey-The 'Week So Far' 2008 Season Compendium"?

Its hard to get hold of being a limited edition from a private publisher but comes with a free bottle of Macallan.

Ken I'd regard this one ("Going Fishing") as the best ever written - and I've a pretty impressive library! And its line drawings by CF Tunnicliffe are hauntingly good...........the one at page 51 which accompanies the story about the railway construction rock fall disaster on the Fraser River, is simply magnificent.
