Scotland's freshwater fish populations and communities are of international natural heritage value. Despite declines in catches in recent years, Scotland's salmon fishery remains of international importance. Catches of sea trout have also declined, particularly in the west and north west of the country.

yeah thanks for the reply, so its a no go for sea trout, but i can fish these stretches for the likes of cod ,sea bass ,etc without a permit as its not illegal to fish for these species ,so if i hook a sea trout by mistake then i would need to throw it back .simples thanks for the advice

Bass fly-fishing is big business along the SW and SE coast of Ireland.
