Default Muckle springer from the Naver

This year's trip for my mate Quacker and me to the Naver was as good or better than any we have had over the past 10 years. It was great to meet some new friends and meet up again at the Hotel Altnaharra with our partners from down Edinburgh way. I'll offer a fuller report and more photos once I get caught up at work, but I gotta brag about my big catch.

I got this fish about mid way down beat 6 on Saturday using a #2 sinking tip on a Rio multi-tip Scandi, casting a Pat Nicol "the Heron" black and yellow bead head puppy dog type fly. The fish measured 41.14 inches and was simply the most thickly built salmon I have ever handled. The Salmon Atlas calculator puts the weight at 25.5 pounds.

That's a perfect salmon. Well done, I'm deeply jealous! What a wonderful part of the world to be fishing in and catching fish like that.

It may be nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

What a fish! The wrist part of his tail looks so chunky. Solid animal.
