Scotland has such a diverse range of rivers. For me a small spate river is the best of the lot.
A good read and it seems you enjoyed yourself.

Forty years ago my family went every year to fish the Laggan camping for a week. I have some very happy memories, stirred by your article. It doesn't appear to have changed much, but I was only four last time I was there!

We were over in Islay on the 5th/12th Sept for the wild brown trout fishing staying in Bowmore, this is the second time that we have been fishing on Islay. We fished Drolsay,Skerrols,Ballygrant and Finlaggan, with good results mainly on dries. We also had a go in the salt for sea trout and had good results catching some sea trout on the fly and a 5lb sea bass using a rubber sand eel.We are already booked up for next year, cannot wait.
