    I thought one of the key points about the Dee monkey fly was that the hair was tied in on the skin rather than as strands of hair - certainly this how the one I found up a tree at Cairnton was tied c/o Scandinavian fisherman who left it there this gave the wing more volume toward the base without bulk of hair - otherwise goat is my preference for long wings

    There is a fly we tied here in NZ, not seen very often called a "Blondie" it was tied with " .. . the first cut hair of a blonde haired baby . . . this being softer and more mobile than that of a toddler" By all accounts it was a rather deadly spring smelt imitation.

    To be honest, there is nothing better than real monkey. However I am using Pseudo monkey and cashmere goat, sometimes Nayat too, all from Foxy tails as replacement now. This is the best substitute that I have found and far better than regular goat hair.
