Canada’s friendliest province has some of the country’s finest waters for fishing Atlantic salmon.

In July 2015, we visited Newfoundland with our TV show, The Dimestore Fishermen, and experienced its storied hospitality firsthand — along with rivers and streams brimming with salmon.

There are many options when it comes to salmon fishing in the province, but some of the most fabled rivers are the Humber, the Exploits and the Gander.

Visitors to the province will need a guide to fish these waters — we learned firsthand that finding when and where the fish are moving can prove difficult, even for an experienced guide. We decided to fish the Humber River on the west side of the province, and we took to social media for help.

Several locals wanted to be a part of our program’s experience and we chose Mike Goosney to show us the river, who impressed with a mix of enthusiasm and selflessness as he volunteered his time to show our viewers his majestic home waters.
