That must have been a quiet day!!!!!

Last time I was up there did a rough headcount of those on the sand and it came toabout 250.......god only knows how many more there are as the estuary was full of them swimming about that day.

Fortunately, my dog isn't much of a swimmer and prefers to stand well back and bark at the seals!!
..........so many flies, so little time!

Clearly there is easy feeding for them to bide there and sustain such a large colony, predator free.

If only the Orca off the North and North West coast got wind of some easy pickings down East

SNH or Marine Scotland will not do a thing, because some girl just out of school has studied them (paid with your money) and said that seals do not attack dogs, and that seals in the Ythan are an endangered species !!

I wonder what would happen if a dog owner shot a seal that was attacking his dog?
I suspect the dog owner would be prosecuted.
With regard to all the seals in the estuary, the vast majority will be feeding out in the open sea. The estuary is just a nice sheltered spot for them to rest up.

Don't bet on it. The Ythan estuary is a massive area of water for such a relatively small river and consequently provides excellent feeding within its bounds. Undoubtedly some will venture out past the breakers but I've had many a walk past the dozens of "hunting" seals at all states of the tide
Thankfully it is stuffed with "flatties" and eels which will help keep pressure off the salmonids.
