Default The First fly you've ever tied

Mine was a black Pennel, followed by a Teal Blue & silver, Peter Ross & a butcher. I was told they were the only flies I would ever need for sea (white) trout in our local river.

So I tied this one today, size 10 no vice just a pair of scissors.fullsizerender-jpg

Black Pennell, too. I think there'll be a few of us in that club!

I just want to give a salute to a man called Graham Haberfield, a family friend who, knowing my love of fly fishing, bought me my first vice, threads, hooks and feathers. I've never forgotten this kindness.

Medium olive quill in the early 80's when I was a youngster, even remember using a rubber to rub the fluff off the piece of peacock eye. Used it to fish the river Lagan between Dromore and Dromara. I still have the flies but not seen the river for years

That was, and still is a fantastic fly pattern. Snares a lot of fish up my way and can score well when all else fails. Must tie some up for the coming summer fishing. Thanks for reminding me Snickety Snicked.
