I remember fishing the river when Bill Topham was looking after it. He was a wonderful river keeper.
It is a magical spot to fish and does have some very nice sized fish for the size of river. I caught my biggest UK salmon there one September, a lovely cock fish of 20 lbs.

Booked in for the w/c 12th October !
I'm a wee bit shy when posting but have to agree with all said comments. I fished for three days in September about eight years ago and was so excited for months before.
I had three fish one was about 12lb and rolled over leader making it feel much bigger. I caught my fish literally a few yards from the bank and behind huge boulders almost dibbling. Tiny wee silver ally's size 14 and the like. I took the diawa whisker 13 footer but ended fishing with a 10 footer.
Great wildlife too. Nearly killed a deer which jumped over the bonnet of my mums car at 6 in the morning. There was no time restrictions then and you could fish dusk till dawn.
Would love to return one day...
great river nice fly water ben der in 2013/2014

I've just booked four days WC 19 October. Been thinking about fishing it for ages but finally decided to do it. I spent half of this morning looking at the u-tube films. It makes me drool.
I'll be driving up from about 15 miles south of Oscar. Bet I pass you on the M6. I'll be the over excited bloke with his rods made up and on the racks, driving in his wading kit, tying a few flies using the old portable vice clamped to the dash board technique and shouting ' Wooo hooo!!!'
Doubt you'll be as excited as us!
We'll be in John Norris at around 1pm on the Sunday, so maybe see you there.
In the meantime get the rain dance going.
Remember to watch out for the police radar van in its usual Sunday location on the over-bridge before Carlisle!Michael
One bit of good news is that there are plenty of fish
