Default First Grisle

The first Grilse of the season was caught this afternoon. 3lb at Tullywee Bridge by Jeremey Shannahan on the Munro Killer. A few fresh grilse are starting to appear in the regular counting pools but it's going to take a blast of water to encourage any major run of fish.
Two Air Corps choppers and a fixed wing plane were on patrol yesterday along with one of the navy boats in this area. Evidently a couple of drift nets were located and taken off Cleggan Head... fishing fish destined for us. More on this when I have more details.
Does not look like much rain is in the offing. I'll keep you all posted.

Good to see the fisheries people being pro-active against poaching.

Default Very Dry. Could get wet.

Even with the drought... four fish this morning in Tullywee and one in the Rock Pool. Obviously from last night's tide.
With only 2.75 inches over the new counter... they can get in.

1st good dark tide for the next six days... I'll report on my visuals tomorrow.

Wonderful looking Sea Trout entered today... not that many though.

They will come.

Default No rain but...one small grilse.

Despite very low water levels, low cloud cover and an absence of any visual new entrants to the river David Christie did manage to secure one Grilse of 3lb from the Rock Pool. Fresh run.
We had a few heavy showers this morning that have made no impression whatsoever to the water levels.
Does not look like much rain will be forecast for the coming few days.

Smile Only 2 1/2 inches!

Only 2.5 inches running over the new fish counter... it can't go much more lower than this but, one fresh grilse this morning in Tullywee and a further well liced fish in the Rock Pool.

No rain at the moment ( I'm hopeing for none this evening so I can veiw in the morning under the same conditions). If I see fish in the same pools (different fish) ... congratulations to the lads that put the counter in... we will not have a problem. Taking out the shelf of rock that caused vast problems over the past 17 years was the best thing ever.

Eat your heart Micheal!!!!

The rain is coming Nigel, judging by the weather chart. Hopefully there will be more fish on the horizon.

What flies and techniques are the guys getting them on in the low water?

Default rrw/45. GTI/90!

Only one fish yesterday on a Silver Arsed Black Pennel. One of some of the flies I get from wee Larry... the best boat builder!

He is coming up to stay after the next rain... he will sort out the Sea Trout.

Look forward to seeing you all soon.

Black Pennel is a great low water salmon fly.

Default June overall.

Kylemore Abbey Fishery.
June 2007.

Water conditions throughout the month were, with one exception, very low. The usual mutterings from the anglers of ‘’never seen the river as dry’’ could be heard for miles and as a consequence, angling effort at 5 rod days for the entire month reflected the situation accordingly.
However, one small spate did manage to grace us with its presence in the middle of the month and this yielded us one of the last fresh run springers of the year at 8 ˝ lb, the first fish out of the Rock Pool for 2009. Only two other 3lb Grilse were caught for the remainder of June, one to Jeremy Shannahan and one to David Christie.
The June run was visibly poor with less than forty Salmon seen to enter the system. In contrast, the numbers of Sea Trout running during the month were both in quality and quantity impressive and given that we will have two more months of a trout run we should be in for a bonanza year.
With only 2.5 inches of water running over the newly installed fish counter it has been heartening to see a few fresh grilse in the normal spotting pools and realize that they can in fact, enter the river during these periods of low water. Certainly prior to the installation of the counter and the subsequent removal of a shelf of rock under the estuary bridge, salmon would not have entered on these low water levels.

Smile Pissing Down. Not the County!

It's pissed down all afternoon and as I write, it continues.
Dirty flood (I imagine) ((John Lennon)), in the morning but not worth fishing until Saturday.

Fish counter nearly connected. Somebody nicked the guide rope out of the ducting as they do at this location.
However I think I could possibly have some good news by tomorrow evening!
